Packing tips...

I'm off to New York in a few weeks and I'm not to sure how to pack as I plan on doing as much shopping as I can whilst there.

I've got enough clothes to last me two weeks, and by using a packing cube I think I can fit everything I'll need into one side of the suitcase and leave the other side empty for my shopping.

Aside from this, what do you all do with your shopping from abroad, how to pack knowing you'll be bringing things back from your travel?

Do as you are - pack small in a large case. If your baggage allowance permits (or it's not frighteningly expensive to add on for the return journey) you can throw in a large tote bag to fill up for the trip back, or even nest two suitcases on the outward leg. You could also look into postage costs.

Do check that the things you're aiming to buy there aren't available at home for the same sort of price though!

add an extra suitcase on return leg? Either put one suitcase inside the other on outbound, if you need to pay for piece, or just fly with 2 half empty suitcases, if you can have several within the weight limit. Or if you need a new suitcase anyway, buy another one while there.
Bring less clothes and do laundry while there, laundromats all over.

but as pp said, US has gotten so expensive that shopping trips there are certainly not what they used to be.

Can you have a hand luggage case too?

unless you go to an outlet mall, shopping in NY is not what it used to be due to the depreciation of the pound

It is very difficult to get a bargain in NY nowadays, even in the sales.

We went last Summer and DD got plenty of birthday money but run out faster than we thought. I remember shopping 10 years earlier and got a lot more stuff for my money.

Unless you plan to hit the outlet malls in NJ, I think they are still a different cattle of fish.

Just ensure that you take tags off, maybe wear some items as you will come over the tax free allowance very quickly.
