Transporting sun hats?!

How do you all transport stylish sunhats on flights?
I don't want to cap or a bucket hat!
I want a stylish straw beauty. Am I missing a trick besides wearing it to the airport at 4am for a 6am flight?

I just pack mine in my case and surround with clothes so it doesn’t bend. The middle bit is usually stuffed with socks or pants so it doesn’t lose its shape.

Use a hat clip to clip it to a bag?

Mine fold into four in the case and go back to their shape easily.

Last year I made a clip out of a baby bulldog clip and a ribbon and attached it to my on-flight bag. This year I’m hoping I can remember how I did it, so that I can do it again!

Stuff it with clothes from the inside and pack.

I lay it down when my case is half filled and then stuff underwear and bikinis into the bowl of the hat before putting clothes under the brim before buying the entire thing under the rest of my clothes. Works fine.

In the days before they made you pay for every last piece of luggage you took on a plane, there was a woman next to us on a flight who had with her, in addition to her giant handbag and pushing the size limits trolley case, a massive hat box, so we had hardly any room for our stuff.

I don't think you'd get away with it now, but I think you might have explained something that I've puzzled over as to why she had the box, she was transporting her sun hat (DP sometimes still refers to 'hat box woman' any time we can't find space in the locker on flights).

But I've now also learned that this is such a common dilemma that they've actually made a solution for it in the form of a 'hat clip'. Every day's a school day.

DD and DH have Panama hats, while only DH's is the real thing, they can't be bend and take quite a lot of space in the suitcase.

So they wear them.

I find you see people looking like they rolled out of bed and come to the airport in pyjamas (and I don't mean children) and people dressed for 30 degrees while it's still 10 in England. So wear your hat and be proud of it.

DH and I both wear panamas when it's hot. His is new and cost quite a bit, mine is an ancient one of his that I keep mending but it fits me perfectly so I'm loathe to chuck it away. I would worry that his would deform if packed and mine would disintegrate. We have crappy old squishy cases and I'm not sure either hat would hold up to being stuffed and laid flat, though it's something I've done with less expensive hats in the past. So ... we wear them. We look absurd in Gatwick, like the bloody Panama Twins.

I'd try one of these. I currently have a blue fabric one but it needs replacing.

You can get foldable hats

I don't consider myself thick by any means but for some reason the idea of packing and stuffing it never crossed my mind!!

I have this. It just goes flat in the case. In my head, it's a very cool 70's vibe, but I probably just look like a middle-aged woman in a floppy hat 🤣

I have a proper fine weave Panama specifically so that it can be rolled.

I stuff the crown with tee shirts and scarves, then place on the base of the case so the brim is flat, then pack around it. I also have a couple of sun hats that can be rolled or folded.

I have a straw Stetson I take everywhere as others have said, suitcase and pack in and around it.
