Would you do this holiday for a week?

Friends of ours own a villa on a tropical island. They’ve said we can go and stay for free. We only have a week free.

The journey to the villa is as such:

i) 9 hour flight, 1 hr on the ground, 40 minute flight (stay on plane)
ii) 20 minute taxi
iii) 20 minute fast ferry
iv) 15 minute taxi

So it’s a 12 hour travelling journey + any waiting time

Would you do it?

Depends how lovely/exciting the destination was when I got there!

wenlilifac · 22/07/2024 17:56

Yes. I find you normally lose a day whenever you fly anywhere by the time you get to the airport, queue etc. Make the most of it I think!

RobinHood19 · 22/07/2024 17:57

Yes. But I’m not someone who stresses about adjusting to local time if I’m only going for a few days.

Would you have 6 full days there, excluding travel ones?

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 22/07/2024 17:57

Why wouldn't you? 12 hours isn't unthinkable and you're not paying for your accommodation

leeverarch · 22/07/2024 17:59

If it's in the Caribbean, I'd take a good look at long-range hurricane forecasts before you decide.

NuffSaidSam · 22/07/2024 17:59

Probably, depending on the destination.

I'd use the money saved to upgrade the flights so I could travel in comfort.

Can you not find an extra day or two to add on?

bows101 · 22/07/2024 18:00

I wouldn't do it with kids (my kids anyway, maybe if yours are better travelled it would be ok?). But yes, for a freebie holiday, it has to be something that gives!

MumChp · 22/07/2024 18:01

Too long to travel for a week.
Two weeks - yes.

Octavia64 · 22/07/2024 18:02

Sounds like the carobbean.

I have done similar journeys with kids. It wasn't fun.

DanceMumTaxi · 22/07/2024 18:03

Yes, definitely. It’s not that long.

LizzieBennett73 · 22/07/2024 18:06

Not a cat in hell's for a week. But I don't travel well and end up feeling rough for a couple of days after at least.

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/07/2024 18:06

Tropical island? I'd be there like a shot!

Sunshineafterthehail · 22/07/2024 18:07

Sounds very exciting. Why would you not want to go?

ErrolTheDragon · 22/07/2024 18:08

I would, but DH wouldn't.
In terms of travelling it's less than I used to do for work trips of less than a week to California (and the company didnt pay for business class).

Is it somewhere you'd really like to go that you're unlikely to be able to otherwise? Is the offer likely to be available to you at a later date when you might be able to plan for a longer trip?
