UK Holiday Cottage vs Barbados? Wwyd

We want a week of relaxation in November. Want to just eat nice food and read our books.

Our friends have said we can use their apartment in Barbados if we pay the electricity we use. Flights are 9 hours and cost £550 each.

I wanted to rent a farm house in the Lake District and relax by the fire for a week. Eat in local pube etc

I find flying long haul tiring. But what would you do? Barbados or UK holiday cottage?

Of the two, Barbados. Better option a hotel somewhere in the UK. Renting a cottage in the Lake District is contributing to pricing local people out of housing.

A week in Barbados, we did a week in March and it felt longer than that as it's so chilled.

We love the Caribbean though.

UnfriendMe · 21/07/2024 14:58

Is this a serious question? Why would you go somewhere in the UK when you can go to Barbados?

OnthePisteAgain · 21/07/2024 15:00

November is a perfect time to visit Barbados, what a fantastic opportunity. The flights is a little more than eight hours so I would go in a heartbeat. Unless you fancy a week of rain in the lakes, that is!

Notthatcatagain · 21/07/2024 15:07

2 full days travelling then time to wind down after the flights. Great if you have 3 weeks to spare but not so much fun for a week. The Lakes are an easy drive from anywhere with access the M6. 3 easy hours for me, we've done it for a weekend. Very pretty if it snows too. Take a warm coat and good boots, sounds like heaven

Barbados no question!

Cold, dark holiday in UK (maybe it will have stopped raining by Nov)

An 8-9 flight really isn’t that long, and with the time difference you can leave the UK at 10am and be in beautiful sunshine by 3pm so you don’t “lose” much of the day.

I do Caribbean hols for a week, great way to recharge over the winter with guaranteed good weather!

Check when hurricane season is due to be over though. I normally travel in Jan when it’s not a risk.

Barbados. Happy hour in St James, and flying fish and Bajan pickle for supper. Bliss 🤗

HawkersEast · 21/07/2024 15:22

Barbados in a hearbeat

FrenchandSaunders · 21/07/2024 15:24

As the apartment is almost free can you stretch to premium economy for the flights?

Wimbledoner · 21/07/2024 15:26

Barbados

I have been to the Caribbean lots of times for a week and the jet lag is fine.

Userengage · 21/07/2024 15:27

I done Barbados for a week, I done it for 6 weeks - always worth it, especially in the bleak midwinter.

StormingNorman · 21/07/2024 15:27

Barbados while you have the offer to stay in your friends’ apartment.

SiobhanSharpe · 21/07/2024 15:33

If you’re British you can easily go to the Lake District at literally any time.
The Barbados offer on the other hand sounds a great opportunity to have a bargain holiday. Shame to miss it, you might regret not going.

ALunchbox · 21/07/2024 16:22

The lake district will always be there. Presumably the offer in Barbados won't be. Flights happen to be cheap. On this basis I'd just go.

GettingStuffed · 22/07/2024 09:48

I love Barbados but I wouldn't do it for a week due to flight length.
