We are spending 4 days in Tokyo snd 4 days in Kyoto at the end of August. Any advice of what things to see/not missed?

Do we need to take cash?

What about clothing? Cultural things we shouldn’t do?

Do we buy a sim card? Wireless internet? Where do we do that?

Any other advice would be appreciated. We haven’t done a lot of research due to work commitments?

If you are particularly keen on going to an insensitive and have lots of tattoos go to Kinosake which is a town of hot springs with public onsens that are tattoo friendly

🤦‍♀️ if you are keen to go to an onsen!!! Don't know why my text got changed !!

On an 8 day trip I’d be really surprised if you need to worry about Shinkansen luggage restrictions. No reservation is needed if the dimensions of your case add up to less than 160cm.

A medium sized suitcase per person and a handbag/backpack each won’t require any special reservation. The overhead bag space is generous as is the space by your legs.

This is part of a larger one month trip. DH & I are taken cabin luggage and backpacks. DDS. Middle size luggage and backpacks

In that case you’ll be fine. A middle size suitcase should be comfortably within the size that you can take on the Shinkansen and the cabin bags will be 100% fine.

If you aren’t sure, then just take the measurements of your cases and add the height, width and depth together. If it comes to less than 160cm then you are OK. We each took medium cases from various brands (Rock, Tripp and American Tourister) and they all came out around 145-150cm. I don’t think you’ll need to worry about luggage reservations.

@Takoneko thank you

I made my luggage reservations at the counter 25 mins before my train. (When I bought my ticket)

This was a Wednesday in mid October around 12pm so not hugely busy.
