Insurance claim for a taxi if we miss the bus?

I'm trying to get through to the insurers but wondered if anyone had any thoughts too.

We're due to fly early evening. Then take a 90 minute bus to our destination. Due to the chaos in the news, it's likely we'll miss the last bus of the day (1hr 45 mins after scheduled landing time).
If we do miss it, would I be able to claim for a taxi from our insurance?
Alternatively we'd need a hotel room for the night and bus tomorrow, which would probably cost similar.
I've never had such disruption before (Ive been very lucky).
Thanks for any help you can give or experience you can share.

Who is providing the bus?

Did you book a package holiday?

Just curious, was that the original plan, relying on being able to catch a bus within a 1 hour and 45 minute window post flight, or is that what you are looking at now with the delays?

House4DS · 19/07/2024 16:50

Not a package.
Yes that was the original plan (I think slightly longer time, but essentially yes).
Just thinking through our options.

No, you wouldn't be able to claim for the cost of the taxi and hotel room.

If it's a tour operator, then they will provide the bus whatever time you land. If other flights are disrupted and land late than you, you will have to wait for those passengers to land too.

Benefits of looking g a package they will sort it.
It will be on you if you booked separately flight hotel and transfer (bus) . Just pay taxi

If your insurance has some kind of delay insurance built in..check the t and c. And exces. E g If excess is 250£ then just pay taxi

I’d be very surprised if this I worth claiming for.
Even more surprised if it’s something they pay out for.

ACynicalDad · 19/07/2024 17:22

I can't imagine this would be a successful claim. I'd be very careful of taxis in the dark in some countries, depends where you're going.

I reckon it’s worth a try, or depending on how long your flight is delayed you might be entitled to compensation so you’d get some money back another way, it’s not like the travel disruption is your fault, you can’t help the fact the last bus will go.

It would be worth checking with the bus company too - if lots of flights are delayed then they might have lots of customers landing late and put on an extra service? Worth asking.

Thanks all. Taxi looking cheaper than nearby hotel. I've installed Uber etc. ready for if needed.
Never had to worry about this before in years of independent travel - I can definitely see the advantages of a package with transfers today!
