Going to the same country twice in a year? Is it dumb?

Okay not the same country but the same region - Caribbean.

I can get return economy flights for £150 each. So it makes travelling a lot more affordable. I absolutely love the tropical vibe of the Caribbean, and the flights are relatively short for that feel - only 8 or so hours. Easy enough time difference too.

We went to St Lucia in January and had a great time. We are about to go to Italy for our summer holiday. I want to squeeze in another trip in late November and I can get Caribbean flights to Antigua or Tobago.

DH groans that he doesn't want to go to the Caribbean again so soon. Is it dumb to do repeat visits to a region? Every island is different!

Do it.

jackstini · 18/07/2024 22:19

Definitely not dumb!
It's a different country for a bargain price!
Go for it

Definitely not dumb. Do it. I would.

We are slowly working our way up around the Caribbean. Each island is really different. Its heritage languages, culture and history really diverse. We also Dive so see a lot of the sea life and I’m loving the area. I think it would get boring if you just stayed in the same resort but different islands different trips and restaurants what’s not to love? Try staying in an Airbnb if you haven’t already and hire a car

The reason it's so cheap.is because of the hurricanes.

RobinHood19 · 18/07/2024 22:54

Why would it be dumb? There’s no law that limits you to X visits a year per continent.

Plenty of us do it, for necessary or leisure reasons - it’s not unusual.

Go if you want to!

Skinglow · 18/07/2024 22:55

Must be so tedious going to the Caribbean twice.

Late November isn't peak hurricane season

Do it why not? All the islands are quite different anyway

BeckiWithAnI · 19/07/2024 07:54

If it’s so dumb he can stay at home.

Being able to travel is privilege and holidays are a luxury not all can afford.

Go for it.

It’s not dumb but if your DH wants to try a new area then that’s fair enough. Does he want to go somewhere else or not go away at all?

I try and leave at least a year before returning somewhere (region not same resort etc).

Bjorkdidit · 19/07/2024 09:17

Sounds like your DH is lacking in imagination. As you say, every island is different.

We've been to Spain or it's islands at least 3 times a year for the last 20 years (COVID times excepted of course).

No holiday has been alike and we've barely scratched the surface of some of our favourite regions, let alone the entire country. And we've never stayed in an AI hotel or been to Benidorm, Magaluf, Playa de las Americas etc.

Not dumb. I did Iceland twice in the same year: once to do lots of outside stuff like hiking and riding, and once to do spas and coffee shops and just chilling out.

hattie43 · 19/07/2024 11:46

How can it be dumb , am extra week anywhere for R and R is a bonus .
