Looking at taking DP to Budapest for a few days for his 40th in February next year. Can anyone recommend any nice hotels there?

Thanks 🙂

We stayed a few years ago at the Continental hotel, Budapest. It had a different name then, but it was lovely.

A native Hungarian here Grin

It depends if you want to stay at the Buda side or the Pest side.

Happy to advise on stuff if you wish to PM me

Which is nicer the Buda or Pest side ?

towelsand · 22/09/2025 22:07

They are just very different… Buda is more “posh”, leafy, Pest is a bit more gritty. Takes 3 mins to cross the bridge though.

It massively depends on what you want to do. Been 4 times, stayed on both, I'd always stay the Pest side personally. Far better for transport, ruin pubs, and real things, easy to get to things. Buda side is nice and not knocking it, it is amazingly pretty, but boring, hilly, transport more difficult, touristy of the "rich tourist" nature. Did I mention boring and overpriced.

We thought Budapest ok as a city break but not the best. There’s much more to see elsewhere but of course has bars and restaurants like anywhere else. We stayed in the Hilton with a Danube view room. It’s on the Buda side. So across the river from some sights but it’s near the castle, national gallery, a fantastic church and the fishermen’s bastion. It’s pretty but restaurants get booked up. Hotel has a good cocktail bar!
