Special day out Montpellier area

Hi, we are currently on holiday in Montpellier and it's my 7yr olds birthday next week. I'm looking for a day trip doing something a bit different from the usual zoo/aquarium/waterpark/theme park for him to do. Does anyone have any ideas? Max 1hr travel? He will be perfectly happy with all I have listed but just thought a change would be nice. Tia

See if there is somewhere you can rent a little canal boat for a few hours? You can let him drive (under close supervision) The canal du Midi is not far away.

I know you can do this from Agde - so there might be others nearer.

You can also do a guided boat through the Camargue from Aigues Mortes - bulls, horses and flamingos. AM itself is lovely and you can walk round the ramparts.

Depends what you’re looking for, but Carcassonne is doable as a day trip on the train and is a cool village within a castle.

Lots of sea boat trips from the Grau du Roi. I like a boat trip :)
