Turkey in August - should we go to Istanbul?

We have just over a week booked in a beach resort in Turkey. I know it's going to be hot and DC 10 and 12 will be in the pool a lot. I've always wanted to visit Istanbul, the crossroads of Asia and Europe and eating in some nice places etc. I'm tempted to fly to Istanbul and then fly on to Antalya but in doing that we will lose roughly 2 days of our beach holiday. Is it worth it?

I'm worried that trying to sight-see in 35 degrees in a busy city may be a mistake and that we are better off staying in the resort and just visiting nearby villages and ancient monuments to get a feel for real Turkey.

Any advice please?

Yes we went last September. Istanbul, then Cappadocia and then Antalya. Fab trip. Do it!!

Been to Istanbul/ Antalya many times. Yes it will be hot, but for 2 days it's doable. The Bosporus does have a breeze/ bit cooler.

100% go for it.
2 days is plenty to see the main sights and have enough time to relax in Antalya.

I wouldn't as I need the week to chill, enjoy the beach and explore the area. Also don't underestimate the risk of flight delays eating into your holiday. I'd do the two places on separate holidays.

I'd think that Istanbul in August will be unbearable. I went in July 10 years ago. Weather was stifling and people everywhere! It'll be the school holidays, complete madness..

Thank you all

Istanbul is good for a long weekend, if you can get reasonably priced flights & accommodation. Something to look forward to next year, or in the cooler months?

Having just done Venice in 32 degrees don’t do it. It’s tough going. I’ve also done Rome in 34 degrees and Paris, it’s awful!

I was in Istanbul for work a few weeks ago and said I'd never want to go back! It's so busy, the traffic is awful. I did go and see the Blue Mosque as we were there but I wouldn't be making a special trip to go there.
