As part of a France / italy road/ rail trip we are in Provence for 5 nights first week of September. We are staying in Aix as a base before moving to lake Como and will have a car from the second day. We went to Aix some time years ago but with our kids who have now flown the nest so we are just the two of us.
We love eating out (but casually with atmosphere and people watching) not fine dining necessarily though both appreciate good food so ideas there welcome too! we like mooching around, walking and wine.
Can anyone recommend anywhere good to eat and drink and watch the world go by, any don't miss shops (food, drink, homeware and fashion essentially). Any suggestions for vineyards to visit. Good day trip locations ?
thanks!

Thé main thing about Aix is getting parked as the municipality is very eco-friendly and has done away with a lot of the car parks. Although public transport is easy. Can’t help with eateries - the centre is full of outside restaurants which were perfectly pleasant but then we had kids who were able to run around safely.
