Help can anyone clarify passport expire dates. I fly on August 2025 with Ryanair to Spain. My passport was issued in March 2016 and expires in March 2026. Would my passport still be ok to fly with?
I Don't really want to get a new one yet as I get married next July 2025 so don't think
I'll have time to get a new one before we go with my married name on it. And I booked it on my surname.

March 26 minus three months. So December/January time.

August is fine.

There is a passport checker on this website

https://www.tui.co.uk/passport-checker

Mine was issued in 2015 and had additional months on it so I was a bit concerned re mine but the checker says it's fine, so worth a look!

gov.uk is your official source of information

Passport validity requirements
Spain follows Schengen area rules. Your passport must:

  • have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
  • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area

So it needs to be less than 10 years old on your outbound date of August 2025. Yours was issued in March 2016 so will be 9.5 years old at that point.

It also needs at least 3 months validity after you return so needs to be valid until November 2025. Yours expires March 2026 so after the minimum requirement.

So it's fine to use that passport for Spain in August 2025.
