Provence. Never been -- need info

Where is provence...is there a beach or is it countryside ...what is there to do?...would it be busy 2nd week July -- how best to get there?...places to avoid?...must sees??

Provence is the South of France. It includes the Riviera, but also much of the arid countryside.

Most tourists stay on the beach side of the Autoroute - St Raphael, St Maxime, St Tropez, Cannes etc. There is a fabulous atmosphere in the summer.

Away from the beach, there are some good tourist spots - Avignon, Aix en Provence, Grasse etc.

2nd week of July will be fairly busy, but it's not the peak time, which is the month of August.

You can drive there, put your car on the train and pick it up in Nice, take a TGV to St Raphael or Nice, or fly to Nice.
