Brittany this month - weather 🙁

I don’t expect it to be scorching but it’s looking really cool and drizzly. Is it too much to ask to get above 20 in July? Looks like the West coast is pretty poor generally for weather.

I am considering cancelling the campsite (just paid deposit on mobile direct with site) and heading inland to Loire maybe.

I wouldn't bet on the Loire being any better. We were there last August and it was cold and wet.

We went to Biscarosse (La Rive, which everyone recommends on here but honestly was a bit of a mess and do not recommend) and out of two weeks had about 4 days of sun, the rest was overcast, thundery, raining and one day was 16 and needed a jumper. I know weather isn’t guaranteed but that coupled with a dirty site was a huge disappointment and waste of money.

Forecast for Loire looking better than whole of the West coast, and it’s not too far from Roscoff for ferry. At least Brittany is lovely and we can cycle and have crepes and cider for lunch. The campsite pool should be quieter. I just wanted it to be a little bit nicer than here (Devon). Specifically booked south Brittany for better weather.

DH doesn’t like a hot holiday so I’m booking one with friends next year. Need some warmth.

We went last year and it was chilly! We had two hot days out of ten! It rained at some point every day too. Its beautiful though

Just back from Brittany. We toured along the north and south coasts, and had brilliant weather for 3 weeks. Out every day on our bikes. Temperatures were mostly in the low 20s, which was hot enough for us.
NB I'm not a weather forecaster, and past performance is no guarantee of future performance!

Southern Brittany is typically a degree or two warmer than southern England, but there's no denying the maritime climate. I'm Devon based too and v much aware that it's been a lousy spring and summer here so far; you should normally be okay in Brittany during July but nothing's guaranteed if this year is anything to go by. I think if you are minded to ditch the camping that you've already booked, you'd be better off heading further south, perhaps to the Vendee or La Rochelle, rather than Normandy.
Brittany is so lovely though I personally would stick not twist! Hope it works out well for you and the 🌞 shines.

It's so unpredictable. We had the first two months in August a few years ago, expecting the weather to be hit and miss. We had over 30 degrees every day.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/07/2024 08:56

Brittany is not the place to go for long hot sunny days though.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 13/07/2024 09:03

It’s worse than usual virtually everywhere in France this year. I used to live there, so I still get weather updates from my area in the Loire (kept on for sentiment). I’ve been watching the Tour, and that has been colder and wetter than usual , the verges which would normally be yellow by now are vivid green. The vignerons are prophesing a poor vintage, thé grapes are not getting enough sun and the foliage is too lush with the rain.

HolaSenorita · 13/07/2024 09:18

We used to holiday in Brittany every summer. There was usually quite a bit of a difference even between the very north and the very south, but the weather in general was quite poor about half the time.

Suasthuasanuas · 13/07/2024 09:25

I hear you! We're getting the boat today and I'm watching the forecast through my fingers. We had a very wet few weeks last year and not just in Brittany but down the west coast. It's not ideal when you have the heater on in the camper in July!!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/07/2024 09:31

I stopped going to the North French coast.

Everytime we went the weather was crap. The area is know for its cloud cover.

theeyeofdoe · 13/07/2024 09:34

We stayed in Plouescat last year mid-August. Forecast looked very mixed, but in reality was lovely low 20’s every day.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 13/07/2024 09:34

I don’t expect wall to wall sunshine but a couple of degrees more than Devon would be good. It’s forecast cooler than home at the moment and I live on the coast so not warm.

We usually camp but we’re in a mobile this time which I’m quite relieved about.

At least it won’t be too hot to cycle. We’ll have wet suits and make the best of it.
