I'm thinking 2 weeks, sunshine, some kind of kids club thing to occupy the 3 year old for a couple of hours

The residence Mauritius!

Blissful - flexible children's club which can be used for as little a time each day as you like - and babysitting too.

oooh Mauritius looks nice

we never go on proper holidays so I am clueless

We've done the Simply thing with the apartments and creche a few times. Gives us a couple of hours to crash out without DDs..... Would love to try one of the more luxourious hotels at some point, think Vila Vita Parc in Portugal is supposed to be great, however we are fans of Greece and like the smallness of the Simply setup. Simpson Travel do a similar thing in Zante and don't Mumsnetters get a discount?

Soapbox's one sounds good, most especially that the kids' club is flexible.

The one time we tried to do that sort of resort thing (never again ...) all the afternoon club sessions had been booked about a year in advance & so all you could have was mornings - which if you were going to use meant an early-morning drag out of bed & rush, on holiday!

And the noisily touted evening babysitting actually turned out to be one night out of fourteen, & they told you which night you could have. Take it or leave it.

What is the Simply thing?

Looked at the Simpson thing - could be an option

We have great holidays when we go away. ALWAYS. But I think that is down to our mentality. Ds is very easy going. We lounge by the swimming pool. He goes to a kids club for an hour or so, which he begs for. Then we have dinner and dancing. Dh, ds and I all love it.
We had this when we went on a first choice holiday to Fuerteventura, to an all inclusive holiday in Ibiza and also when we went on one of the Sun £9.50 park holidays to devon. It depends what kind of people you are. We could have fun in a phonebox.

how wonderful for you

Yes obmolov, we tend to have good holidays too, from the week on the sundeals (always been lucky with the caravans we've had) to the fantastic baltic cruise we did for my 40th,

The cruise was fab and relaxing. Excellent food, great kids' clubs, as much or as little sightseeing as you wish, etc etc.

We've also had good holidays eurocamping (caravan and tent).
