Hi, I'm going away for a friend's birthday and we're flying hand luggage only. I've never flown without hold luggage before.

I've been sorting out my liquids: shampoo, conditioner, suncream, deodorant, hairspray, toothpaste (all travel size) and then little testers for moisturiser. I'll need to put mascara and some form of concealer in there too. The bag is to be no bigger than 20cm x 20xm.

I've bought a nice little see through bag but just burst the zip. How does everyone manage or will I be OK with a larger zip lock bag?

Would really appreciate some help. Thanks 😊

Get a solid stick deodorant?
Do you really need hairspray?
Can you buy some things at your destination? Use hotel shampoo?
I’ve always just used a ziplock bag and it’s always a bit of a squeeze.

I always buy sunscreen at airport.

Use stick deodorant.

I think you have to use the airline bags, but not sure, I always do.

Some airports used to be really strict about the bag size, but that's less of a problem these days. The main point of that was to keep people to one litre in total. 23x23cm probably won't get you sent to the back of the queue.

If you are flying from a UK airport with the new scanners, you can in theory take a lot more, but then I see that they recently backtracked and each individual container has to be less than 100ml. And for the return leg you might not get those scanners.

Also maybe you can find smaller containers. Your local pharmacy may have some screw-top pill bottles that would do for a couple of hairwashes worth of conditioner. I have a special shampoo that only comes in 250ml and I travel with a couple of squirts of it in an old hotel mini bottle.

Or you can buy locally and throw away what you don't use (or leave it for the chambermaid). It can be quite fun shopping in a local equivalent of Boots. The German chain Müller is all over Spain and they have great make-up at good prices.

Thanks all, I got a triple bag set from super drug and used the middle one. Fingers crossed it should be OK.
