Tourists shot with water pistols

Anyone else a bit worried about the protests against tourists going on across Europe? It’s really putting me off travelling with my children. If I’d been one of the people on holiday shot at with water pistols by angry locals in Barcelona I would have felt so threatened and upset! I generally don’t feel I can book to go to any of theses places now in case we’re not safe.

‘Tourist’. That seems a bit harsh.

We experienced nothing but friendly locals this year on holiday, canaries where they said they were protesting. But we stayed in a hotel not an Airbnb and we sod t money which generally goes down well. Apparently one of the gripes in mainland Spain are people not going out to eat and drink so not spending money locally, one person cited tourists were bringing food from home and the Dutch were the wirst culprits.

Over tourism is a problem though and municipalities need to get to grips with licensing so housing stock is available for locals rather than tourists wanting a cheap pad for the week. If you want to be a responsible tourist, only book dedicated holiday accommodation
