Cefalu?

looking for somewhere in Europe mid-end sept to go with DH, DS (will be 17 months), and my parents (early 70s). We won’t have a car. My parents are pretty mobile but bad knees and would struggle with lots of very steep areas.

ideally looking for somewhere with a nice smallish scenic town that has enough restaurants, cafes and places to wander around to keep us occupied for a few days, and where things are within walking distance.

would cefalu fit the bill? We would be going for 3 full days (5 days in total but the first and last day will be travelling).

if so, any recommendations on where to stay? I’m thinking an apartment might be better, as we will need to be in during the evening for son’s bedtime. (Unfortunately he doesn’t sleep in the pram, only his cot or the sling!)

or any other suggestions welcome! Ideally coastal places in Italy.

we have been to puglia (monopoli) before and really liked that.

Cefalu is lovely, the town is.great to walk around with lovely restaurants/ cafes. The beach is sandy. When we were there, last June parents were in the water with toddlers, so I assume it’s safe.
I can’t help with the accommodation suggestions, we stayed in the Hotel Victoria on the sea front. It has a great cafe with lovely little savouries and ice cream.

I spent 2 weeks travelling around Sicily pre-covid, but sadly never made it to Cefalu. We went in Oct and loved that it was cooler and less crowds. I can recommend a lovely BnB in Palermo, but not in Cefalu I'm afraid. I realise Cefalu is on the opposite side of the island, but I'd read that Etna erupted again today. Hopefully its all calm by sept though.

A hopeful bump that someone else has a recommendation for you.

Cefalu is lovely - mostly flat through the old town but with some hills in some areas and then obviously there is La Rocca. It’s generally walkable. If there is enough there depends a little on interests. There are lots of nice restaurants, and the beach is sandy and really nice. The cathedral and La Rocca are probably the main ‘sights’, the latter probably wouldn’t work if ascents are an issue. The journey from Palermo airport is very easy.

I’ve only stayed in hotels there, so can’t recommend apartments / villas.

Other options I’d look at if you wanted other places to consider - Tropea, Sperlonga, Polignano a Mare, Porto Ercole, Otranto

Thanks all. It sounds like Cefalu might be a good option. Will see if I can find a good air bnb.

what is palmero like?
