We are travelling from London to Malaysia in December. I have received an email saying my DH and I are eligible to bid for an upgrade. The bid starts at 900 to 1120 the graph below the bidding slider looks like you credit score from red to green and when you go to the highest numbers its says, ok chance, medium chance, excellent chance. Has anyome had experience with this and what should ai bit?

It is on my things to do before I 40 which is a year away but I dont want to throw money away for the sake of it
TIA 😊

Have you checked to see what business with Malaysian airways is like? Some airlines are way better than other and would therefore be worth more?

1161 is a bargain

I've done it years ago on a different airline.

I bid not much over the minimum and won. Strangely, and I just remembered this now, my young son's bid was selected and not mine and then I had to get them to make sure they did it for me too as he obviously couldn't be up there alone.

It completely depends on how many BC seats are still available at the time of travel and if anyone else has a go!

Mine was a fairly basic airline but lie flat bed, great service, ala carte meals that you could order etc. Worth it for the experience.

Agree business in my experience isnt particularly great with malaysian airlines in comparison to say Qatar/emirates. Ive only done one flight with malaysian business and have steadfastly avoided booking them since. Any of the business flights Ive taken have been for work and imo the meal I got served on emirates economy (family hol) was better than the malaysian business offering. In saying that a lie flat bed for any of those long flights is great

Qatar Q suites are unbeatable in my limited experience. Personally I'm not sure I would spend the money on Malaysia airlines. I would have said go premium economy but it doesn't seem to be an option.
I've just flown BA premium economy and walking through business made me realise it isn't worth the money on some BA aircraft too.

I'd save your money, pay for exit rows unless you can change your airline to Qatar. Enjoy KL, amazing place!

We took a 11½ hour flight from Tokyo to Doha in a Q suite and I slept for 7½ of them, solid. Quite incredible. One disadvantage is that many of the pairs of seats alternate, one facing forwards and one backwards, so I guess if you are loved up it can be a bit unusual, but DP and I can manage 12 hours with our legs sliding past each other.

Another great thing on Qatar business class is that they don't have "meal service". There is a menu and you order what you want, when you want it. They do come round about 2 hours before landing to try and very gently try to get you to order then rather than an hour later, but when I woke up after my long sleep I had breakfast 45 minutes before landing.

The Q suite experience is phenomenal but it can be a hefty price. My last return ticket on Qatar Dublin to Singapore through Doha was 7K. Ethiad is also a great business offering. I’d say a close second. Singapore and Emirates after that. Malaysia just didn’t rank in comparison. Plane was old, service excellent but food was inedible. Just chalk and cheese. For eg on the other airlines there’s a menu when you board of beverages including cocktails, cocktails, champagne etc. Malaysia literally had a trolley with juices, wine or champagne. It all felt a bit second rate

That sounds like a very limited choice, especially since most people would skip the chalk. 😂 (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

Completely agree @samarrange . I'm more than happy not to sit next to DH!
Lovely business lounge, champagne, food and beds.

@Baxdream thank you, I cannot wait to explore KL, having done a bit more research. Seems like the £1400 would be best saved for more experiences rather than business class that I wouldn’t feel like it was worth it apart from laying down!

We just did Air Malaysia flights London to KL then on to Borneo with Air Asia. Went in economy with extra legroom seats and masses of legroom, could put legs out in full. Plane was fine. Service was very good. Food and drink, ok on way out, pretty inedible on way back, 2 meals both ways, like a dinner and a breakfast. The special meals were served at same time. Way over think I had a curry then way back I had veggie stuff and dire, left most of it. You can go to back and ask for drinks but I got given flat coke. COVID was rife on plane out, lots of coughing kids and some adults making it hard to avoid unless you had a medical mask. The tray table didn't look like it had been cleaned for a year or so though rest of plane seemed clean enough. I wouldn't bother with business class, didn't look that different and they would have heard screaming babies from our section as well. We stayed at the Sama Sama KL Terminal 1 hotel and that was great for a hotel by airport if need airport hotel. I would use AM again. Borneo was amazing.
