Hello, Jet2 are flying from my local airport from next year, so I wondered what they are like compared with tui?

They are very good. What aspects of the holiday are you concerned about- accommodation, flights, transfers?

The reps are very low key, zero upselling of excursions or tedious welcome meetings. Just there if you need them. Most of the in-resort reps are Irish now due to Brexit (same for all companies of course).

Bloody love Jet2. Especially if you have in resort check in for the way home (although a bit pissed this year with them as to guarantee keeping your hand luggage on you there is snow a charge for for that Confused guessing it's across the board).

TUI are monumentally shit and don't give a fig about customer service. They treated us appallingly last year when they lost our case coming home so that for me was the final nail in the coffin. In future we won't go abroad if TUI are the only option.

As an aside - don't forget to check regulations if your flights are delayed due to anything within your airlines control people ... we were last year and claimed. The £ was absolutely worth a few minutes of online form filling in.

Should have said - claim via airline if you can, we got way more than insurance would have paid

I fly with jet2 and TUI at least once a year. I prefer jet2, nicer and slightly comfier planes, but never had an issue with either. I just compare like for like and go for the cheapest.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2024 12:05

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz we made sure our hand luggage would fit under the seat in front and that means you don't need to pay to keep it with you.

Mojodojocasahous · 03/07/2024 12:06

You get way more luggage allowance with jet2 than tui

dementedpixie · 03/07/2024 12:09

Think with jet2 we had 22kg of hold baggage each plus 10kg cabin baggage each which is plenty

Tallisker · 03/07/2024 12:14

Oh and also Jet2 flight times are pretty civilised.

Clevs · 03/07/2024 12:21

I haven't flown with TUI for several years but have been with Jet 2 a few times in the last couple of years and I can't fault them.

Aposterhasnoname · 03/07/2024 12:55

Jet 2 are miles better than tui

IvanaTinkles · 03/07/2024 12:56

I think on your average holiday where it all goes well, both companies are similar and pretty good. However, if something unfortunately goes wrong, Jet2’s customer service is pretty good, but Tui’s is absolutely atrocious!

Bjorkdidit · 03/07/2024 12:59

Another bonus for Jet2 if you have hold luggage, either because you've paid for it or you're on a package holiday is that they'll often also take your cabin wheelie case into the hold for free, which means you don't have to drag it around the airport or find a locker space for it. A few times we've just had to take our rucksacks on the flight, with just electronics and books/snacks etc for the flight.

Hardly a bonus!

My cabin bag contains jewellery, meds, spare clothing, documents etc that I don't want to risk putting in the hold and getting lost.

Bjorkdidit · 04/07/2024 08:45

All those things are in the small cabin bag that you take on the plane with you.

When we travel, DP often takes his bike or we have diving equipment. We've paid for this to go in the hold and they also take the wheelie cabin cases that have our clothes and toiletries in into the hold too, without charge. Which means that we don't have to drag the second bag through security and around the airport, or find space for them in the overhead locker, which I think is the main reason why they do this, because it reduces the fight for the overhead locker.

Chickdaft · 04/07/2024 18:03

Depends if you are bothered about baggage allowance (shopping) Jet 2 have 22kg plus 10 in the cabin. I’m going with Tui in sept and 20kg hold, not sure of cabin but I think 6? Am on holiday just now, on the beach and our carrier is easy jet, only 15kg hold plus small under seat bag.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 04/07/2024 18:07

I prefer Jet2, never had any issues with them and have found them better priced

Thanks demented Grin
