Some thoughts.

Abroad.
Hot.
Beachside hotel.
Walking distance to a town or village, somewhere interesting, with character.
Not a ‘hotel resort’.
Has to be in the English 6 week holiday.

Preferably less than a 3 hour flight (or no flight), but not a deal breaker.

Really struggling, once again to find ‘my place’. The last few years we've ended up not travelling at all.

Really grateful for any suggestions.

Sicily.

Budget?

Lesina · 02/07/2024 22:04

Cavtat in Croatia.

minipie · 02/07/2024 22:04

Try i-escape and put in your filters

Marla222 · 02/07/2024 22:05

Budget up to £5,000 for a week.

Hotel suggestions are more of a help than just an island. It is the detail of the hotel that is tricky.

How many people? This summer? Is the budget just for accom or flights too? What board?

Yes, I know, last minute!

Two of us, roughly £5,000 to include flights ( but some flexibility). We prefer breakfast only ( or room only) as we like to wander and eat out.

Thank you!

I’d be looking at Rovinj, Croatia - specifically any of the Maistra hotels (Grand Park, Lone, Monte Mulini), if they’re not too resorty

QuackQuackComeBack · 02/07/2024 23:34

£5000 is a silly amount to spend on 2 people 😯

Retiredearly61 · 02/07/2024 23:40

The Parador in Cadiz. Great hotel, beach nearby and lovely city

Surely it depends on how much money the OP has?

I would go for a Spanish city and pick a fancy hotel with that budget. For example the W in Barcelona, but Malaga, Alicante or Valencia would also be good suggestions for somewhere with a beach and culture. Or somewhere like Nerja.

Oh, God, yes this. I'd love to stay in a Parador but they're about £3-500 pn.

Our favourite! I'm not sure those hotels are in budget any longer but we have been three or four times.
They took a lot of research to find!

Any ideas for something similar?

Closer to home but beautiful and friendly - Jersey.

People decide how to spend their own money.
Personally I think it's stupid to spend money on endless cups of coffee, cigarettes, takeaways several times a week and having my nails done. So I don't. But lots do.

I am a big fan of Sunvil. I just e-mail them with my budget and requirements and they come up with brilliant options. We have used them 3 times now- twice for Greece and once for Cyprus - and our budget is a very great deal less than yours. Do give them a call. I really rate them. They have loads of destinations as well. Smile Our requirements this year were - villa with pool- near a beach- near or in a village with tavernas - quiet and pretty. We are going to Crete this time round.

Jersey is also lovely! (St Helier not so much... bit financial district obviously, but other spots. )

Les Hautes Mers, L’Ile D’Yeu - might not be hot enough, might not be available in August

Almyra or Annabelle in Paphos but flight time will be longer (and might be too family-full)

D-Resort, Sibenik perhaps.

Palazzo Rainis, Novigrad

Meriviglia Slow Living, Mitikas - really interesting part of Greece, but would need a car

Don Ferrante, Monopoli

Have you checked on the costs of the Maistra hotels in Rovinj, though? I think they’d be well in budget

Marla222 · 03/07/2024 14:13

Thank you, I will take a look at your suggestions.

Lone is coming in at around £3,000 for us both, so, yes, maybe a back up plan!

I would like to try somewhere else and you've given some interesting options.

Stayed at the Parador in Nerja a few years back - beachfront, beautiful sea views, walking distance to town. Meets all your requirements.

maw1681 · 03/07/2024 14:33

Friend goes to Sardinia every year, loves it

The less popular Greek islands could work too

Nomorepants · 03/07/2024 14:39

Try Cachet Travel - for Turkey or Crete. We are travelling with them in Turkey at the moment and have been very impressed by their recommendation.

Valamar President in Dubrovnik. Own private beach with great service to the loungers. Walking distance to other restaurants and about £7 in an uber to Dubrovnik city centre which is great to explore...walk the wall, gondola up the mountain, boat trips to the smaller islands....trip to BOWA if you like that sort of thing (we went for our wedding anniversary a few years ago and it was amazing!)
