I think I would try to get there for opening and do the Graceland tour as soon as you can. Thursday is Independence Day so tomorrow may be busier than normal with people extending this holiday.

Have you booked tickets? It'll be very busy

get the very first slot so you’re the first people to walk into Graceland as there are no tours/people In front of you and buy the best package you can, assuming it'll be your only visit

Duchess87 · 03/07/2024 00:56

Hopefully you had a good time at Graceland today. What else do you have planned or are you just winging it? I recommend going to Gus’s for some fried chicken!

Shittification · 03/07/2024 17:47

The grave is now part of the property (it used to be in a cemetery across the road I think) You can definitely see it as part of the general tour. Graceland is waaaay smaller than most people imagine.

The planes are worth seeing - I think there is a small extra charge for this.

Would also recommend a trip to Sun Studios in Memphis, but I think you would need to book this in advance.

Stay cool and enjoy!

Hope you’ve had a fabulous time @Duchess87 i went 2 years ago and remember that feeling walking into Graceland

Duchess87 · 03/07/2024 20:51

We haven’t been to Graceland as yet , we’ve got our tickets , people have suggested walking from the Guest house to Elvis grave early in the morning before it opens and quiet
Im a bit confused at how this is done ?!

You can visit his grave from 7.30 in the morning before the house tours officially start.

Have a wonderful visit….its so moving.

OnTheBoardwalk · 03/07/2024 21:06

Wish I’d known that @magicstar1 would have given me and my OH something to do when I made us get there an hour and a half before our tour started.

i got worried about being stuck in traffic for hours in an Uber getting there from Memphis (it took us no time at all)

Duchess87 · 03/07/2024 21:07

Thankyou all so much , Im so excited this has been my child hood dream to visit Graceland.

So you have Graceland Mansion which is Elvis home. In the garden of Graceland Mansion you will find the meditation garden area where his and some family members graves are located. I believe Graceland Mansion offer people the opportunity to visit the meditation garden free of charge for an hour each morning.

Across a 6 lane road from Graceland Mansion is a whole complex filled with mini warehouse type buildings, each dedicated to areas of Elvis life (music, film, army etc) and also souvenir shops, restaurants etc.

As you have already bought tickets, I wouldn’t think you’d need to get up so early to visit the meditation garden. You could just go to the entrance for opening time & join the first tour group of the day. Because you need to cross the 6 lane road, there is a little minibus that transports you across the road. I took the bus over & walked back to get pics of the gates.

omg it was so surreal & sad 😢. Very well
organised we got the shuttle from the Guest house the staff are so helpful the weather here is 100f . We did walk to the meditation garden at 7.30 just be to safe and avoid crowds .
Our tour was at 9am , on entering Graceland I just couldn’t believe that I was actually there my child hood dream come true . I found it emotional walking around , it wasn’t too busy I’m not sure of this was because it’s Independence Day .
The shutttle runs every 30 mins so we was at the pick up just before the time it all ran like click work Thankyou all so much for your advice

Glad it went well @Duchess87 Surreal and sad is a good description!

What's next?

Duchess87 · 05/07/2024 12:51

It really was such an emotional experience to think that he loved Graceland , watching the home movies was moving .
We’re going to Nashville today for a couple of days we’ve booked The Oprey then onto Las Vegas , my husband and I were there 20 years ago so it’ll be interesting

Enjoy!

We stopped at the Loretta Lynn ranch between Memphis and Nashville - also very sobering. When we were in Nashville we did a day trip out to one of the Civil War sites - I needed a change from the music overload!
