Madeira August

Hey :)
has anyone been to Madeira in August with a baby(ours will be eight months)? If so, how easy/difficult was it and would you recommend? Are some of the walks doable with baby in a sling?

Also to keep costs down we would like to use public transport and avoid hiring a car (we have our eye on a very expensive but lovely apartment on Airbnb!) Is public transport easy?

Thanks xx

Replying to keep your post current. I went to Madeira in May, it was hotting up to the low 30s so August will be very hot. October was still nice, but obviously not so hot. There are busses from Funchal, but we were told that they were unreliable when keeping to a timetable.
The countryside in Madeira is lovely and well worth exploring. Other than the main roads, many road are steep, single track.
Do your research carefully and you will have a great time. Hopefully someone with more relevant info will reply soon.

I've been 4 times, but not in August.

We've used ordinary buses to get around, & they're fine.
Maybe we were lucky, but they arrived more or less on time.
Stay away from rush hour times & let the locals get to work!

There's a HoHo around Funchal.

I wouldn't recommend a levada walk with a baby - or any small child.
Paths are fairly narrow & can be slippery & steep in places.

If you should trip.........

There are options for minibus tours to different parts of the island & they are reasonably priced.

It's a beautiful island, plenty to see & do.
