Venice airport transfers/parking

We're flying to Venice (marco polo) and staying 2 nights before moving on to Slovenia and Croatia, flying home from Venice 2 weeks later. I had planned to get a taxi/boat from the airport to the hotel, then back to the airport to pick up a hire car after our stay in Venice. However, it doesn't cost much more to hire a car for the full time we're there, so am now thinking we should get the car straight away and park it on the outskirts of Venice for the time we're there.

Can anyone please tell me if it's easy enough to park (google maps looks like there's a few car parks as you arrive into Venice, but don't want to get there and find out they're full!), and also is it easy to get a water bus or taxi from the car parks to the San Marco district where we're staying?

Thanks for any help offered!

Water taxi from the airport is one of the absolute best things about a trip to Venice so I would do that (it's expensive but it's a highlight in itself, not just a way of getting to your hotel). I definitely wouldn't hire a car until you absolutely need to. Why pay for extra days when you're not going to be using it at all?

I use Venice Airport to depart rather than arrive, but inside the airport there’s a moving walkway that takes you to the Vaporetto stop, and then it’s 90 minutes by boat to San Marco.
What a lovely way to arrive!
I agree, don’t rent a car until you need it for the second part of your holiday.
This is the airport website in English.

Thanks Tilly. Water taxi does look good, but its £128 each way, which is far more than the extra 2 days car hire would cost (tho i guess i'd have the cost of parking and water taxi from the car park to the hotel to factor in).

Just checked and there is a water shuttle from the airport that would cost £50 each way (Alilaguna) which stops at San Marco Giardinetti, which is 7 mins walk from the hotel - can anyone recommend that's used it?

Ah thanks SgtMajorMummy, just saw your replies after i'd posted and looks like the water bus is the one i was looking at. I'll go with that option. Thanks both!
