Is there a way to delay a period for a holiday?

Hi everyone,

I've booked to go away with my DD next month and completely forgot that I'll be on my period for the full week we're away.

I had an IUD for 5 years and only had it taken off 6 months ago when my marriage ended, so my period is back to being heavy.

Any suggestions please?

Yes, you can buy period delay tablets online

Secondstart1001 · 27/06/2024 14:03

You can get period delay tablets from your doctor or buy online. You need to take 3 days before period and it’s usually 3 tablets a day. I’ve used before- they work but you get a killer period after you stop taking pills! But a holiday is worth it ahd sounds like you need one x

Yeah, but you’ll get worse than usual PMS symptoms for the whole time you take them.

Hopingforno2in2024 · 27/06/2024 14:13

I took them once and I was so grumpy I have decided I won’t take them for my holiday this summer. Will invest in good period swimwear instead.

GruntledGoblin · 27/06/2024 14:13

I took them once to avoid a period while I was on holiday. I had horrendous PMS instead. On reflection, a period would have been less bothersome.

Thank you.
I'll have a look online.
Can I please ask if the tablets are to be taken 3 days before my period is due and then for the whole week I'm away?

Norethisterone

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 27/06/2024 14:16

My local pharmacist sells them.

Winter2020 · 27/06/2024 14:21

Hi,
I just used them for a recent holiday and they worked fine despite being right on the cusp of starting my period. I had no spotting/colour at all while on them. I experienced no side effects or heavy period after so I guess I was lucky.

I would advise you not to leave until last minute as I asked instore at a bbots pharmacy and pharmacist could not prescribe. It has to be a Dr. Online is your best bet as it takes 2 weeks to get a Dr appt here and I would feel guilty using their time when you can buy cheaply online. £13 for a weeks worth I think.

Yes. 3 days before and then while you want to delay. 3 each day. I set alarms on my phone to remind me.

Garman · 27/06/2024 14:29

I’ve taken that medication several times and have had no side effects, no PMS symptoms and no period changes so they are not a given.

Yes exactly that! 3 days before period then for as long as you need to delay your period for. Just make sure you take those pills on time to avoid period coming at set times works best. Maybe get a period tracker app to help you out as well ?

Secondstart1001 · 27/06/2024 14:37

Oh yes and this time of year there seems to be a shortage so don’t least to last min as pp suggested!

dementedpixie · 27/06/2024 14:47

I bought mine online
https://www.pharmica.co.uk/period-delay/

Take them 3 days before your period is due and for as long as you need to delay it for. Period starts a few days after you stop taking them

I didn't have side effects and the period after stopping was a normal flow one.

Period Delay Medication - Pharmica

Many women delay the onset of their period when its timing interferes with planned activities. Pharmica offers safe and effective medication to delay your period.

I read about the negative side effects of the period delay pill and chose to go on the contraceptive pill (Microgynon) instead. I took it for 3 months without a break and it was bliss Grin

TheNinjaWife · 27/06/2024 17:16

You can also use them the month before to bump your holiday period along. that way you don’t take the pills while on holiday. You take them the month before.

maw1681 · 27/06/2024 17:25

You can buy northisterone online, take it from 3 days before period is due then 3 times a day, your period will start 2-3 days after you stop taking it.
I've used it 3 times successfully.
I usually delay the period before I'm due to go away so that the next one is also delayed if that makes sense, so I'm not having to worry about remembering to take pills on holiday

Winter41 · 27/06/2024 17:27

You can take birth control.pills and just run the packs together with no break.

UtterlyOtterly · 27/06/2024 17:44

I used Norethisterone several times to avoid having my period on sporty holidays.

No side effects, no worse periods afterwards. I don't think the bad side effects are guaranteed.

Bearpawk · 27/06/2024 17:53

Yep got them from Superdrug doctor online: worked a treat and no side effects - just a tiny bit of spotting throughout but better than a full on period

Zakiam · 27/06/2024 18:17

Thank you so much everyone. ❤
