I’ve got into a real anxiety about holidays. DD left home abruptly a year ago, and though we are getting back on an even ish keel, am so anxious re holiday. Just me, DH and DS16. Worried DS will be bored/miss his sister.
my brother lives abroad so we could visit there, but DH sayinghe doesn’t want to see him.
please anyone know anywhere that’s not too boiling where DS could do activities and DH can sit by a pool? I’ve put it off but it hasn’t gone away!
also DH now saying he doesn’t want to spend much so let’s go to brothers.

Is this for this summer? It's quite late so affordable places and travel will be at a premium but a few ideas based on your criteria:

Normandy/Brittany - not as crowded/hot as the south but beautiful, lots to do and shouldn't be too ruinous to find a smallish apartment somewhere.

Slovenian Alps - absolutely beautiful and if you go for Lake Bohinj rather than Lake Bled it will be more affordable and less crowded in the summer.

Also look at the Dutch/Belgian/German Center Parcs? Generally much nicer and cheaper than the UK version and loads of activities for a 16yo.

Try a weekend break instead like Barcelona, krakow, Prague. Then it will be cheaper anyway so less pressure and it's only a few nights if the teenager gets bored.

Gosh such quick replies! Thank you. Don’t know why it’s so hard.

I have no suggestions because your search criteria are huge - there will be thousands of holidays out there matching those criteria. But to answer your thread title question - no, you have not left it too late to book a holiday.

I frequently book a holiday with only weeks (and on some occasions, only days) to go, because I travel on standby flights as I use Staff Travel, and book flights I think I will get on. I’ve booked holidays all over the place, summer and winter, doing this. Eg the last couple of years we’ve been to Croatia twice (different ends of the country) and Crete. Each time we’ve found accommodation with sea views and water sports/scuba for the kids. We don’t always get the best room, but the hotel or campsite facilities are the same for everyone regardless of the view from their room, and we have a lovely time.

I booked a long weekend in Holland at a campsite in a nature reserve recently in half term and they still had accommodation available. You just need to decide what sort of accommodation you want (hotel, camping, self catering,) where you can actually get to, what dates you want to go, and how much you want to spend. Then use those criteria as your starting point.

To give an example - you can get a cheap flight to Turin in August? You’ve got a choice then of Ligurian coast, Italian lakes, or alpine ski resorts in summer. I am pretty sure there will be camping and hotel space somewhere in all of that.

Look at Tui last minute deals, only say them specifically as they include baggage snd transfers. There's loads as long as you are not constrained by dates. I'm just about to book AI in Greece 2 adults 2 teens for £380pp in Aug.

What about a Neilsons or Mark Warner holiday? As much or as little activities as you want.

Moommoo · 26/06/2024 05:33

Hello! Getting somewhere, maybe, I hope!
DH wants pool and restaurants, DS would like some sort of adventure/ meet other teens.
neilson and mark warner look fab but are 2k pp.
live found flights to zadar that are cheap, does anyone know what it’s like there?
