Can I take meat and dairy products onto the ferry as long as they are eaten or binned prior to disembarkation??

Where are you going from and to?

Technically I guess you would have to eat them before you got halfway across but I've taken a picnic several times with no issue. There is a remote possibility that your food would be confiscated at customs on the way out if it contained banned products but I think you would be very unlucky.

No one checks for food in the UK- if you are checked it's by French customs in France.
Here is the official French website for what you are allowed to take:

Sorry, yes it's just the passport and security checks that are done this side. Customs would be the other side so you should have no worries with sandwiches on the ferry. I often take sandwiches for the journey in France too.

Nobody is going to check holidaymakers for food when you arrive in France, let alone on the ferry. It's not like Australia where people coming in from random bits of Asia might have some invasive species with them.

And if they did, which they won't, the absolute worst that would happen would be that they would take it off you. And that won't happen, because nobody will check.

I completely forgot I'd got round to posting this question but I'm so glad I did thank you so much everyone!
