I have never been to Greece

As the title says, I have never been to Greece. Every time I start looking into a Greek holiday, I get totally overwhelmed and give up.

I am looking for adult only as our children are grown, easy access to the sea and also a pool, but I don’t want to fight for sun beds. I want somewhere quiet and no Brits abroad types/ lots of drinking.

Happy to spend a lot of money for the right holiday. Has anyone been anywhere which fits the bill?

Kefalonia.

Think we stayed near Lixouri and it was so chill. Went with a now ex and he still says it was the nicest holiday he has ever been on!

Tsilvi in Zante.

Far enough away from the chaos of the main resort. Have had some lovely peaceful holidays there.

Me either. Following!

Four Seasons Athens

I second Corfu.
Ikos in Dassia as mentioned above is absolutely beautiful.

Lots of other beautiful towns and villages on the island too. Look at Paleokastritsa and Kassiopi too.

Notimeforaname · 22/06/2024 17:56

It's also small enough an island to travel around in one day if you wanted to see more. Also quick day trips to Paxos and Albania too.

Kassiopi in Northern Corfu. It’s my happy place. Very chilled, lovely harbour. It doesn’t have a sandy beach though. Kalami, a bit down the coast has a lovely sandy beach.

We stayed at the Rodostamo hotel and spa on Corfu last year and had a lovely time. It's adult only and in a lovely quiet spot away from the crowds, but with good transport links.

A 10 months walk up to the main road gets you to the bus stop into Corfu town (took about 20mins and ran until late: we ate out there a few evenings). There's a good number of restarunts within walking distance to the hotel as well. As well as the restaurants at the hotel, we booked b&b because we like the choice to eat wherever, but the food we ate at the hotel was very nice.

There's also a boat hire place opposite the hotel (Def recommend using and going to one of the beach side restaurants down the coast: book in advance) and a lovely old church. Hotel has two great pools. Only drawback was the bar in the evening was very quiet. Sometimes we were the only ones in there!

Daios cove crete - bliss

Definitely Ikos (outside of the school holidays). We went to Oceania and even though it’s well equipped for children, it’s also very well set up for adult-only guests, with a separate dining area, adult-only pool, adult-only lounge/bar etc. Not tried any of the others, but I hear they’re all lovely.

Last week I went to Domes Norris Chania in Crete. Adults only, fantastic service. Fantastic rooms, beautiful pools and a lovely taverna next door.

AuntieMarys · 22/06/2024 18:07

Lindos Blu. Adult only. Amazing food and ambiance

MiniCooperLover · 22/06/2024 18:07

Sorry that should say DOMES NORUZ 😂

NigelHarmansNewWife · 22/06/2024 18:08

Following for info. I’ve only been to Crete when a child.

I went to Xante in September.

It rained every day for a fortnight.

Thanks so much everyone. I am determined to get myself to Greece. What about Mykonos? I really feel like the white washed look too.

I got back on Wednesday. Gorgeous small hotel with a free shuttle bus to their beach club.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 22/06/2024 20:31

Mykonos attracts a party crowd and cruise ships.

incessantpunditry · 22/06/2024 20:49

We went to Corfu in August once, and it was unbearably hot and humid. Too hot to do anything other than flake out in the shade. It was also inexplicably crammed full of Italians, (which is fine, we just didn't know why there were so very many of them) and then someone told us that Italy pretty much shuts down in August and they all go on holiday to Corfu! I also got eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Minos Palace in Agios Nikolaus
Caesar Gardens in Lindos

swim up shared pool in pool if you can stretch. You will not be disappointed.

Nitgel · 22/06/2024 21:15

Skiathos is lovely. So much to see and great boat tours around the islands.

LittleBowSheep · 22/06/2024 21:23

The 'white-washed look' islands are the group of islands called the Cyclades which includes Mykonos and Santorini but I don't think they would fit your remit. They are both extremely busy and expensive and you won't get much peace and quiet there.

I went to Xante in September.

Yes the weather goes downhill in September in the more northern islands. I had a lot of rain in Levkas in September a few years ago.
