Best holiday with teens in August

Please can you tell me where you’ve been with teens that you’ve all loved?
I have three boys 16, 14, 13. We’ve always self catered previously but interested in some new ideas!
Thank you!

Kalkan in Turkey (villa with pool). Small safe town, beach clubs, water sports. Brilliant views. Great food. Returning this year for third time with 15 yos

What do they like doing ?
You need a holiday too and they will likely entertain themselves and each other with access to WiFi / food / ice cream and something they enjoy
Our dc always loved snorkelling so anywhere in the world with a safe beach access was always good for us.
All inclusive if you can budget for that .. they will eat you out of house and home at that age so may be more economical and give you a break.

As another poster has said Turkey is a good all rounder . We've been to Olodenuiz a few times ... busy little town but so many gorgeous nearby quieter beaches and places of interest / trips nearby .

Mine used to absolutely love cruising, I started taking them when they were around 9 and 11. They worked really well for teens, we all used to choose excursions together. We all like history and they loved the all the food. One is a bit more arty and enjoyed doing things like art classes with me, the other one did sports activities and quizzes. We all enjoyed the shows, sunsets, cocktails/mocktails and watching the ship departures each evening from our balconies. We used to get two cabins next to each other and have the balcony dividers removed to
make a long balcony.

I also agree with the all inclusive Turkey suggestion.

Do the boys like an activity holiday - zip-wires, high-ropes and climbing parks, white-water rafting, lake swimming, hiking, mountain biking (or alternatively, easy cycling), sailing and paddle-boarding, paragliding ...? Or going underground and making guided visits to caves and old silver and gold mines? If so head for the Alps in Austria, Italy or France.

How about a mix of city break and activity?

We are off to Berlin for 5 days and then Bavaria for water sport, high ropes, swimming and just hanging out.

We are all interested in history so museums, castles etc are all good for us.

For us southern Europe is just too hot in summer, Greece nearly got me so we stick to the middle of Europe.

TizerorFizz · 20/06/2024 19:17

@GoofyIsACow Peru is perfect then. So is Kenya. We don’t like a really hot August in Europe. We always looked for a bit of relaxation but things to see and do too. Caribbean - eg learning to sail or windsurf? Cruise in Canada/Alaska? Cities like Boston and then New England coast?

Ours loved cruises at that age. Something for everyone, plus interesting cities and beaches thrown in. They were definitely our teens favourite holidays.

Fairyliz · 21/06/2024 16:00

Another vote for cruising. Mine adored it and made lots of friends.
Loads to do and they can eat what they want all day.

stuckasastuckthing · 22/06/2024 21:26

I'd never have thought of cruises as a good option for teens, but am definitely going to take a look as several of you have suggested them - any particular cruise companies or destinations you'd recommend?

TizerorFizz · 23/06/2024 09:36

Some ships now have 6000 passengers. Gross in my view. Try smaller ships! Our teens liked a cruise but we didn’t. I am not a herd person. We used Families Worldwide in the end. Just smaller groups!

I suggest Royal Caribbean for teens. Lots of wow things to do that are not suitable for younger children or perhaps older passengers.
That means during the school holidays you get lots of other families with teens.

My teen is a bit of a foodie, so loved trips to the Italian lakes. Lots to do - swimming, watersports during the day etc and then great food in the evening.

KaraSeat · 23/06/2024 12:24

Cruises also our favourite holidays with teens. Plenty for everyone and loads of places to visit. Perfect!
