Airline recommendations for Florida

We are off on a Disney holiday next April and can start looking at flights now so I'd welcome any advice.

We want to try and go as cheap as possible but being such a long flight (with 2 children of our own and SIL having 3 to travel with) I think I'd rather do it without a stopover.

Can anyone recommend the best places to start looking.

TIA xxx

will watch with interest.... where are you thinking of staying?

no advice really but each time we've flown to florida direct we flew with Virgin Atlantic cheap for us and great kids entertainment, my DP also recommends BA as can be cheap depending on when you fly and they have great entertainment options for the kids.
we booked online or via airline direct - only because we went to a villa in florida

We are staying in a villa close to Disney which is already booked, has been for months.

I'm only just starting to look at flight's there are so many options it's mind boggling!

We'll also need a hire car - any ideas on that front?

we used dollar rent a car they were great, we hardly had to do a thing.

try airlines direct, like BA, Virgin Atlantic & American Airlines

BA and Virgin are the only UK based carriers that fly direct into Orlando. American airlines do not fly direct to Orlando from the UK.

Have been to Orlando with both BA and Virgin. THey are similar in price but found BAs online check in arrangements much better.

Virgin's on board entertainment is better though- you can pause the film you are watching and more choice.

Another vote for Dollar car rental- very good and quite reasonable.

Another option for a cheaper deal might be to fly into Tampa rather than Orlando. It's a little further away (About an hour in the car to Kissimmee) but a much more relaxed and friendly place and no where near as busy. (BA fly to and from here)

We always fly Virgin and use Dollar to rent a car (you can do the rental on line).

We got a very reasonable sized car last year for about £200 - for two weeks.

Virgin here too, kids entertainment and food can't be faulted and the staff are great with the kids. Travelbag.com are quite good for a bargin if you're not worried about who you fly or stay with.

You can get flights with other UK travel co's that go into Sandford, like Airtours, but don't know what the charges are?

bellavita · 12/04/2008 15:36

Funnily enough at work yesterday, someone said First Choice were very good - and extra leg room in economy.

If you travel with Virgin you get airmiles which can be used on subsequent flights (this is what we used for last years and this years flights) - it has knocked quite a bit of money off the price of 4 tickets.

Just looked at the website for First Choice - they only fly into Sanford which is maybe about an hour away from Orlando.

As Frizbe said - Virgin are very good with the kids, they can just get up and help themselves to drinks which also gives them a little exercise and something to do on the flight.
