MAJORCA Car hire or public transport/taxis????

Does anyone know Majorca well enough to say whether it's best to hire a car for a week in Majorca or just take a taxi from the airport and use public transport whilst we're there? We will probably want to get around a bit ( with a 2 1/2 year old). Especially if the weather's a bit iffy.

Whenever we have landed at the airport, we've gone straight to the car hire desks and easily hired a car.

We've then been able to drive direct to our villa (at the north of the island) and then it is so easy to just pop out for things or go exploring.

Can't imagine having to rely on public transport after having the convenience of your own car.

Driving around out there is so easy.

I would definitely recommend Pollensa at the north of the island (less than an hour from the airport), the beaches are beautiful, the port of Pollensa and Pollensa town itself is absolutley lovely and, I think, the nicest part of the whole island, especially with a family.

Looking at some brochures, the hotels look very nice but we stay in a villa. www.villaplus.com is a great company.

All villas have private pools, billiad tables, sky, playstations etc and the company book your flight and car too if you like. Highly recommended.
