Egypt tour with teens

I'm looking to book a trip to Egypt, either around Oct half term this year, or early July next year. We are limited with time in more than one way. We currently have a year 10 and year 8, so school terms to work around, and I have some health issues which are very likely to shorten my life, so I want to show the kids this wonderful place while I can.

Ideally, I would like three days in Cairo to cover sphinx, the new museum (I've not been to this one) and Cairo in general, then down to luxor for a 5-7 night cruise down to Aswan. The sound and light show at Karnak is non-negotiable. I'm unsure if we should add a few days round a luxor pool afterwards. Flying from Manchester if possible.

Does anyone have an agency they would recommend? As much as I want to go, I can't justify the £23k I've been told by a high street agency. I was hoping to keep it below £10k. We don't need ultimate luxury, just clean and comfortable, as most of the focus will be on seeing everything (assuming I can get the kids off their screens).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I highly recommend "https://www.discoveregypt.co.uk/"

They do have set packages, but their tailor-made options are great.
We'd been to Egypt before, & knew what we wanted to do.

The trip involved hotels, Nile & Aswan cruises, various tours, 9(?) flights & various road transfers.

Everything went very smoothly.

This was 2022. I think we paid just over £3,000 each for 2 weeks.

You will be roasting in July.

There's no way that should be costing you £23k for 4. £14k absolute tops. I've done a similar tour to this one which is an independent travel company in Brighton. It was a long time ago but it was absolutely brilliant. Although we did 3 nights camping on the Nile on a traditional felucca not a cruise, one of the highlights of my life ♥️
I'd go for October, July would be far too hot in Egypt for me.

In fact this is very similar to what I did except we had 2 or 3 nights, I forget - was 2001 ! - on the felucca and two nights in hurghada at the end. It was absolutely brilliant and your kids will love sleeping on thr felucca

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomew @Georgyporky thank you so much- I will look into both. I hadn't considered sleeping on a felucca - but I will now!

@reluctantbrit thank you. I'm aware of the heat, the previous two cruises I did (many, many years ago) were both mid August! 🥵

Hi! 23K is way too much!
I recently did this exact trip and we did it all without an agency which worked out cheaper, and also meant we got to do exactly what we wanted.
3 nights in Cairo (I don't think the new museum in Giza is fully open yet, just fyi), 3 nights in Luxor (nice to have an extra day to relax at your chosen hotel) and then sailing down to Aswan.

I suggest looking at the sailing company options first to figure out their schedules/sailing dates, then just booking the other hotels in Cairo and Luxor (and internal flights) around that. It worked out so, so much cheaper.

I was in Cairo and Luxor in the October half term last year. We just booked flights and hotels ourselves, was about half the price of the packages we'd been quoted. Appreciate this may not work for you if you were doing a cruise too. We flew back via Cairo but some days of the week Egyptair have direct flights from Luxor to England.

We stayed very close to the new museum in Cairo (by the pyramids) but it wasn't open yet.

Top tip for Cairo - use Uber so you don't have to haggle and still get ripped off by taxi drivers. We never had to wait very long and, even with a generous tip, much cheaper than the prices quoted for other taxis.
