Begamo airport to Milan city centre

Hello

We are travelling to Milan in July landing at 2150 on a Friday night. It'll be me, DH, DD5 and our 3 month old baby. Ideally, we'd get a taxi, but I'm being quoted £160 online - is that right? And would we need to bring our own rear facing car seats? It's the only taxi we will take so I'd rather not lug the baby's massive seat with us for one journey (please don't get at me about safe travel - I know they should be strapped in ideally!).

Is there another way of doing it? The coach to Central Station and then the metro/train? Or is that madness late at night with a baby and a small child?

Thanks for any pointers! x

Bergamo is so much nicer than Milan. I'd change my accommodation and just visit Milan for the day in this situation. Stay in the Alta Citta, the airport bus will drive you straight there

This. Bergamo is wonderful. There's the upper town and also the upper-upper town!

(Also, for the PP who mentioned Malpensa, that's actually even further from Milan than Bergamo is!)

Yep Bergamo is lovely, so make sure you factor in some time there

TizerorFizz · 18/06/2024 16:12

Ok so people don’t realise Bergamo isn’t Milan then! I was trying to shift blame. Anyone booking with Ryanair needs to check out where they are actually going then there’s no surprises.

TizerorFizz · 18/06/2024 16:13

Again - Depends what you want. All Italian cities have their charms and differences.

We wanted to see the Codex Atlanticus. Most people don’t know what’s in Milan so rush through. Huge shame and I’d do both. Linate is the best Milan airport.

I find it odd that Ryanair call Bergamo Milan

It's the way they roll. Everyone's heard of Milan and it's probably a popular city break destination. Whereas before Ryanair started flying there, which they do because it's cheaper than Milan's main airport, few people outside Italy had probably heard of Bergamo or expressed any desire to visit.

See also 'Barcelona Reus', which until the advent of Budget airlines, was a military base 60 miles from Barcelona that was also used as a gateway to early package holidays to places like Salou, or Paris Beauvais, 60 miles outside Paris.

TakeOnFlea · 18/06/2024 17:32

The airport is actually called Milan Bergamo. Nothing whatsoever to do with Ryanair

TizerorFizz · 18/06/2024 17:37

Yes but everything to do with Bergamo and not Milan hence the need to check. Plus if anyone flies with RA, they don’t, quite often, use the best airports for onward travel to the main destination. I always check exactly where I’m flying to and pay for the better airport. RA could fine transfer details of course.

TakeOnFlea · 18/06/2024 17:38

It's also as close to Milan as Milan Malpensa is (around 40km). Makes very little difference to the onward travel options and is a better/smaller airport.

TakeOnFlea · 18/06/2024 17:40

Crosspost but it's a better option than Malpensa for reasons outlined. I travel there often using both airports.

Saying Bergamo is nowhere near Milan is like saying Bolton is nowhere near Manchester
