Flying from Bergerac or Bordeaux

Tried to get flights to Bergerac but there were none several months ago so booked to go to Bordeaux, which is a two hour drive from where we are going in France. There is a £200 charge for both of us to change the flights. Bergerac is a 40 min drive from where we are going and would be so much easier. Would you pay it?

Are you hiring a car ? For just over an hour’s more driving I’d stick to Bordeaux. The roads are easy, there’s a toll road but plenty of other routes to avoid the tolls. Will you be north or south of Bergerac?

South. It’s just not very enjoyable having a long drive before arriving. We are hiring a car.

Are flights to Bergerac now showing is that why you are asking? It's a holiday airport really so flights don't happen much outside of the holiday period. Bordeaux is a good airport too. I wouldn't pay that much to swap especially if it's giving the £200 to Ryanair. Btw we usually drive down much nicer and more fun

Only you will know if it is worth £200 for saving two lots of 1hr 20 mins driving.

Will you also be saving money on the toll roads with less distance to go?

Thanks . I have been to Bergerac before and last time we went to France we had a two hour drive and then a supermarket shop before we got to the villa. I thought 40 mins would be a lot easier . It does stick in my craw to pay Ryanair another £200 though

The other factor is family members may need picked up and dropped off at Bergerac during our stay so maybe if we all arrive at the same time it would be easier. I’ve never flown into Bordeaux before . The flights to Bergerac weren’t available at the time I booked. Kicking myself now.

As others have said Bordeaux airport is fine, road access is straightforward.

I wouldn’t put anymore money Ryanair’s way just for an airport switch of that magnitude but that’s me.

Look at Mappy https://en.mappy.com/ Gives you toll charges and routes.
But only you can decide if it’s worth €200 to have the shorter drive. Bordeaux airport is very easy access.

Thanks that’s reassuring .

I wouldn't bother. We've flown into Bergerac and Bordeaux before to go 30 mins south of Bergerac and it really isn't that much more hassle to drive from Bordeaux.

Also, Bordeaux is absolutely lovely, so depending on your return flight times, I'd try and fit in some time there!

I don't think 2 hrs is long drive especially with French roads.
