I have an important birthday in January. Thinking of The Canaries. Some tips please

I'm normally a city break or quiet coastal village sort of holiday person.
I have an important birthday in January and I'd really like to go somewhere in Europe that's potentially warm and sunny at that time of year. I don't want to fly further because it would only be a short break.
I thought about Lisbon or even Madeira but wondered about the Canary Islands - I know it's a bit further but it might fit the bill.

I'm interested in geology too so...

Does anyone have suggestions for a low key holiday there?

Or somewhere else not to far but almost guaranteed sunny and warm (I think 20 degrees C is warm in winter)?

PS: I have no interest in going to Dubai, Eqypt or similar so it has to be Europe .

Thanks

Puerto do Mogan, Gran Canaria is always my recommendation for the Canaries for people who prefer more low key / quiet holidays. There are lots of interesting day trips you can do to things of geological interest, especially if you’d be happy hiring a car.

Lanzarote is interesting geologicically if not beautiful. Barren volcanic landscape with a live volcano to visit.
We stayed in the adults(Star Prestige) section of the Iberostar lanzarote Park hotel in January. It was low 20s every day though windy (it's never not windy there). Cool evenings.
Sea and pool cold though I did swim.
It's not guaranteed though, I've been many times in winter and not always had perfect weather.

I'd second Mogan on Gran Canaria. Meloneras (also on Gran Canaria) is fab too, just a slightly different vibe. I think Gran Canaria has the best weather of all the Canary Islands, it doesn't seem to suffer from winds that the others get.

Maspalomas / melanaries on Gran Canaria
fab beach , good restaurants, but bus to connect to most places
as pp said Peurto Mogan is really lovely / pretty

Tenerife too, mount Teide and Los Gigantes cliffs. Los Gigantes is a more low key area

Lanzarote, Playa Blanca or somewhere more rural if you prefer. Some wonderful black volcanic landscapes and stunning Papagayo beach. It's our pre Christmas go to. We have a private villa with a heated pool and I've been able to swim most days. It might be a bit cooler in January, you need to check.

Have you considered the Azores? It's 17–18 degrees every day in January and the walking and landscapes are amazing (not sure about the actual rocks for the geology bit, sorry).

Most people stay on Sao Miguel island in the capital, Ponta Delgada, but you can also take excursions to the other islands.

It depends a bit on what you mean by "low-key", but there are certainly no full English breakfasts or football shirts. Enjoy it while the Gulf Stream lasts.

Los Gigantes in Tenerife, very dramatic cliffs
Puerto Mogan Gran Canaria, beautiful.
Playa Blanca Lanzarote, lovely area.

Take a look at La Gomera if you are looking for low key and see if it fits your requirements.

Really appreciate all the suggestions. Cheers everyone
