Recommendations for Malta

We are due to go to a family wedding next August in Malta, we’re considering going for the week as one of our family holidays. X2 girls aged 11 & 14, I was hoping for an apartment type complex with a nice sized pool, close to local shops/places to eat/beach. We’d look to hire a car and do some sightseeing for a few days

has anyone been or can recommend anywhere? Thank you!

Honestly not sure I'd hire a car
The place is so full of cars there's no where to park. It's a nightmare. The buses go everywhere and are reliable. We did the whole island by bus.
Depends when you are going. The only lovely beach is mellheia. Whereas if you like the town/ central kind of place I'd stay in Valletta for the great transport links to everywhere. We did self catering so can't help on the hotel

You don't need a car in Malta. The bus service is excellent and you would be going on a boat for some of the sightseeing. It is a really wonderful place if you are interested in history, food and boats. The Cathedral in Valletta is beautiful, worth a visit just for the Caravaggio on display. The war rooms tour is really interesting. Mdina is well worth a visit. Have a google of things to do in Malta.

Gozo.. definitely. Gorgeous beaches, much nicer than the mainland and takes no time to get there.
