Universal Studios - advice

We're going on a family holiday at Christmas to Florida. We have a week in Miami and then drive up to Orlando where we have 3 days before flying home from there. My 2 kids (13 & 11) aren't huge fans of rollercoasters, but I'd like to know if Universal Studios is worth a visit (huge amount of money, they would love the movie experience, but is there enough to see & do without 'scary' rides?!)
I'm also after advice for hotels. Are the official ones worth the cost? Would definitely like a 'tasteful' hotel with a pool for the kids...
Basically, any advice from those who have been would be greatly appreciated! I should add that we have been to Disney before, so don't feel the need to go there again. Thanks in advance!

Yes there’s enough to do without scary rides, and it’s especially worthwhile if they’re Harry Potter fans.

I would look at Universal Studios website beforehand and some YouTube content of both Universal parks.

If your children are not big fans of rollercoasters then you may want to give Universal Islands of Adventure park a swerve. There’s not much of a movie experience there either particularly when compared to the original park at Universal city on the west coast.

If you have not been to the Disney parks for a few years a lot has changed in that time.

Do you have a budget in mind per night re the hotel?. There’s plenty of them in Orlando and you may well want to look at a suite based hotel like the Embassy suites or Homewood suites.

We had a similar amount of time at universal studios before a cruise and stayed at one of the on site hotels which allowed us to access the parks an hour earlier. However we didn’t have any free time to use the pools.
There were quite a lot of scary rides but it’s also good if you’re into movies which one of my DC really is.
