Barcelona or Strasburg?? In February!

OK, planning ahead slightly, to having a long weekend (just me and dp!) in February to celebrate my 40th.

Dp's been to Strasburg and loves it - I've been to neither but really want to see the Gaudi architecture.

Any advice on which to go to in February, where to stay, how to get there? Budget is the usual 50p...

Strasbourg is gorgeous dotty but maybe best seen in the Autumn around wine harvest time (the nearby Route des Vins is incredibly beautiful)

In Feb, sans ds', it has to be Barcelona IMO

Have never been myself

Hey dotty.

Dp and went to Barca last Feb, I was 7 months pregnant at the time but it was lovely - warm enough for jeans and t-shirts. Loads to do - touristy buses to take you round the city, lovely parks, amazing buildings - great tapas bars off the main drag.

We stayed here - it was fab but quite expensive - had its own starbucks though!!

My mum went a few years back and got an apartment just off La Ramblas which worked out a lot cheaper than a hotel - bit more freedom too. I dont think the taxis from the aiport are too expensive, if you are flying to the main airport in Barca (easyjet from l'pool)..alternatively

You can fly with ryanair to Reus or Girona airport usually a lot cheaper - although they are both classed as "Barcelona" I think they are about 40 minutes on the train into the city centre - if you dont mind catching a train then this can work out a lot cheaper I think?

ooh - that sounds good - thanks! I think Barcelona it is - will now spend the next 10 months planning - starting with ordering passports for us both, as both ours have run out over the past 6 years!

I really hope you have a great time but please read this

Dottydot, I went to Barcealona in February 2006 and it poured for the 3 days I was there and it was absolutely freezing cold, so just bear in mind the weather might be a bit rubbish and pack accordingly - I was also quite disappointed with the place however, a few of my friends have been and all love it so I guess I'm just the odd one out

barcelona is absolutely gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. easyjet flies Liverpool to Barcelona.

Dottydot · 07/04/2008 21:25

OK, I'll take a woolly pully and will remember to keep safe. Can't find flights from Manchester to Barcelona (not that I've spent a shocking amount of work time today investigating... ), but Liverpool's definitely a possibility.

Excellent - I love a long-term project - and this one's even got the hope of becoming a reality if I start saving now

We went to Strasbourg in February 2007 and had a wonderful time (and the weather was fantastic).

I can recommend flatsbydays.com for accomodation in Barcelona, they have loads of appartments to suit all budgets.

Never been to Strasburg but Barcelona is highly recommended - so much to see and do!

Visited in March - some warm days but quite cold nights so I'd agree with Alibobster - pack for all weathers.

We have flown with Monarch from Manchester but Jet2.com do quite cheap flights from Leeds/Bradford if you can get there.

Apartments are a great idea - we used FriendlyRentals.com who have a huge choice and are well priced. But there are some great hotels too.

Wish I was going.....one of my favourite places to visit
