Child passport renewal without father's details

Hi, I was looking for a bit of advice about renewing my child's passport. It has expired and I need to get a new one for an upcoming school trip. The school trip is supported and agreed to by the father though he has not contributed financially (not hugely relevant, more that he's not the one losing out on money if it can't go ahead).

We are in the middle of quite a messy divorce and he is very angry at me for leaving. I went online today to apply for the passport renewal and was asked for both parents passport numbers. Obviously I have my own but have asked my ex for details of his and he is refusing. He has a long history of being controlling and I guess this is just another element of that.

My question is, if I am unable to provide these details will the application be stopped or delayed? There is no rush currently for the passport, with several months still to go before the trip but I want to get organised and will need to let the school know the new passport details we'll in advance of travel.

Thank you.

I didn’t provide my son’s dad’s passport number when I renewed his passport and it was processed fine. He would have given it to me if I asked but I cba as we were doing it online so didn’t want to have to pause the application
until his dad got back to us.

Same as PP. I just put unknown. One of them was fine and straight through but the other needed someone to verify the photo as they had changed so much, even though the last passport was only issued 6 years ago lol

It must be possible to do, DDs dad has nothing to do with her so no opportunity to get his details and we got a passport ok.

Thanks for the replies. It's reassuring to know others haven't had too much of an issue. I'll get the application done tonight.

I think it's just to prove they're entitled to a British passport. If they are entitled because of your passport then there's no need for another. And it's fairly irrelevant if it's a renewal because they were clearly already entitled to a British passport!

I applied for my DCs with just my passport number because their dad's Irish. I've only really recently noticed that you can put an Irish passport number in too, but it was never a problem because they are entitled to British passports because of me.
