What's going on with travel insurance?

A couple of weeks ago I had a travel insurance quote from Tesco for £35 but didn't book it. Yesterday, same policy was £90 but I didn't book it because I wanted to check comparison sites first. This morning, the cheapest on comparison site was £270 so went back to book Tesco and it's now over £500!!!!

What's going on??

This is a single trip policy to USA for 2 weeks for 1 adult, 2 children with no pre existing medical conditions.

Is it because it’s getting closer to the date of travel ?

No, it's for travel in October and Balance payment is not due for ages yet. I'm thinking something to do with the big travel company collapse in Germany? I feel like they know something I don't!

About today clear cookies. Also try direct line, Tesco and the post office directly.

Don’t know what’s going on. Those quotes sound very high. Try some of the companies not on the comparison websites.
Direct line and avanti are worth trying. I’ve used avanti a few times and they always quote me the best price.

Often annual cover is cheaper for some reason, try that.

I have travel insurance with the bank and pay a monthly fee for the bank account - also get AA, phone insurance etc.

I had to pay a little extra travel insurance just for me as I have a pre existing but it was small and the rest of the family were all covered without extra. Could you do this?

I'm with Nationwide. Also got a few £££ for moving to them last year.
