Give me your recommendations. There might be 5 of us. 4 adults and one 17 year old.

Don't. It will be scorching.

Househunter16 · 08/06/2024 18:01

Agree with @LimoncelloSpritz . I went in the first week of August a few years ago with two 8 year olds!!! Gorgeous place, but unbearably hot and for me, it spoiled the holiday. We were constantly looking for shade.

furusato · 08/06/2024 18:08

You'll need shade and access to water to cool down. it is a fabulous place though. Syracuse is wonderful, but expect it to be too hot to sight see in August.

I went to taormina in august, it was really busy but i didnt find it too hot (but i am always freezing so can cope with hotter temps lol). Can you go july instead after AS levels?

tedgran · 08/06/2024 18:39

Some while ago we went to Sicily in September, a guided tour. The owner of the tour company, who lives there, said that they didn't do tours in July and August as it was far too hot

verylongday · 08/06/2024 18:40

I have a rule that i wont go to southern italy after the end of june. Its too bloody hot otherwise. I went to Rome in august once. It was unbearable. Never doing that again

fungipie · 08/06/2024 18:40

Been to Sicily many times, April, May, October. July and August, no way.

DreamyCyanFinch · 08/06/2024 18:49

I went in 2022, beautiful but too hot in August.Only Italian's seemed to be brave enough to go at this time.It was too hot for sightseeing , although I managed to go up Etna.I spent most of the time in the sea.

Startingagainandagain · 08/06/2024 19:23

Way too hot in August!

I lived in nearby Corsica years ago and it was already often unbearably hot in July/August, so I can't imagine what it must be like now with climate change...

You won't be able to do much sightseeing/travel around the island with the heat.

Always better to visit in June or September.

FancyTaupeSloth · 08/06/2024 19:35

my parents are currently in Corsica and it's been 32 degrees so can't imagine the temps in August 🥵

Bettedaviseyes111 · 08/06/2024 19:38

Taormina is beautiful, but think I went in June and it was very hot then … so imagine it is scorching in August. Sicily is gorgeous though.

Nooneknowsbutme · 08/06/2024 20:43

South East coast is the best area, been many times in July & August.

Prefer to stay in beautiful Ortigia & use as a base to see Módica, Scicli, Noto, Ragusa, Taormina.
Lots of beautiful beaches
Car hire a must

Leave Ortigia on the days the cruise ships invade.

cannotfindanickname · 16/06/2024 21:04

Those of you that said don't it will be too hot. Where would you recommend to go to in August then?

Sicily : Tecastagni - part way up Etna.
Easy reach of the whole east coast
but several degrees cooler than the coast
enjoy
