Best Greek Island late Sept / early Oct. And is it safe (fires)?

Hi, 2 tweens, single mum, nervous traveller!

Kids love Greek mythology. Would like to take them somewhere with historic sights and beach. Though after the horrors on the news last year, it seems a bit mad.

Though I know that was mostly August. Thoughts and recommendations?

I've also never driven abroad so that's an issue too! Though I may get over it!

Hi, what about Cyprus instead of Greece as it has lots of historic sites to see, beaches, nice food and weather etc. And they drive on the left which makes it much easier.

Early October will be much cooler. I've been to Greece and there were a lot of thunderstorms so it wasn't particularly dry, if fires are worrying you.

Nobody can predict forest fires though.

I’ve been to Kos, Crete and Santorini last week in Sept and had lovely weather.

Going to the islands closer to Turkey you’ll probably find it warmer but not hot at that time.

And I’d say if they like Greek Mythology, Crete is a great choice as the Palace of Knossos is a brilliant day out
