Do I risk the train to Gatwick

I am travelling by myself from Gatwick.

It's a 3 hour drive, and £130 to park, or I could take a 2 hour train journey for £80. It involves a train to London, then tube to Victoria and train to Gatwick.

This is my preferred option but worry if the trains are cancelled or there are delays I'm screwed!

But is it riskier than the car!

How about driving to Reading or Guildford and getting direct Gatwick train from there? Check parking prices on the RingGo app?

Getting across London with luggage is depressing.

We went to Gatwick on a train strike day, due to go via Southampton but got rerouted via Reading.

We also stayed at the Bloc and got free priority security check. It was great striding past the queue

Just returning to report back that I did go on the train.

No holdups at all, far less stress than driving and all in all a good decision.

Check when you need to be there, look at what trains get you there in good time, then take the trains before those. Always did, never missed a flight.

We do this too, even when driving, i don't trust there not to be roadworks/accidents, would rather be there the night before.
