We've had a pretty difficult 12 months so planning to take my two Dc ( 19 and 17) away somewhere to chill for a week at the end of august

Would like it to be somewhere with a pool, and somewhere we can potter about to restaurants and bars without too much of a hike

Undecided on self catering or a hotel but if it's a hotel I think Ds would need his own room which puts price up

Couldn't cope with really high temps.

Happy to drive if it's not too complicated

Airport could be east mids/ Leeds Bradford or Manchester

Don't really want to pay much more than £3.5k. Saw some nice villas in Asturias on booking.com but never have many reviews so I'm cynical

I'm recovering from surgery and struggling to concentrate due to meds .. so thought I'd ask the Mumsnet hive for recommendations / advice

Sorry you've had a tough year! I hope you manage to find somewhere nice.

You mentioned Austria- we went last year in early August and are going again. Stayed in a hotel in Zell am See- they did do family suites but they are a lot more expensive sadly. We just had one room but our son was only 9.
There were lots of apartments nearby though.

Although I have never stayed in an apartment, we have a friend who has stayed in a few during ski season. He basically says, anywhere you stay in Austria will be spotlessly clean and decent.

I must say, everywhere we went was very clean (right down to the train station!). Loads to do in Zell and you often get a summer card giving free access to cable cars etc.
We flew with tui from Manchester.

If not there, depending on how much driving you want to do, could get the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam and go somewhere in Holland? Supposed to be a lovely country.

Or villa/gite in France? Either fly and hire a car or drive and get the ferry from Dover. My parents have done France a lot and again, never had any issues.

Thanks @PumpkinPie2016 ... I meant Asturias in Spain but Austria might be a good shout. Holland might be an option but I'm not great on ferries so think we would probably fly.

I'll try and focus a bit more tomorrow and research some resorts in the Netherlands

How warm are you happy with it being?

Perhaps somewhere on the Atlantic coast of France would work?

I m with warm ... I'm not happy in 40 degrees !
