Eurocamp-style holiday, driveable from Calais, in August, <2k

Is this doable without it being hideous?

I was on the verge of booking De Schatberg in the Netherlands but then read some very mixed reviews about it being so crowded that the kids can hardly get in the pools and the hygiene being pretty bad.

We have 10 year old boy, we need lots of activities but also like to get out to the countryside and maybe a couple of city day trips.
We like peace and quiet but I'm realistic that going to a holiday park I'm August isn't going to be quiet, I'd just like it to not be noisy in a drunken/party/older kids way if that makes sense. DS has ASD which also means it would be great if it could be somewhere slightly less full-on than a party place.

DS has food allergies which is why we haven't looked at hotels.

Any good suggestions/reviews of places? Don't mind it being in France but Netherlands looked interesting because you can border hop to so many places to get different vibes from each place.

We’ve stayed in Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands twice and would definitely recommend it. It’s around three hours drive from Calais.

Look at the Castels et Camping site in France. A lot of them have their own mobile homes. Chateaux des Ormes, Chateaux Les Eaux, Chateaux Gallinee (sp?) are good vut there are many others.

Absolutely doable for that price; though I think it will come down to availability of accommodation now. We went to Eurocamp in Germany last August; France this summer.

You will find mid to late August cheaper because European schools will have already returned.

Thanks guys. I will research all your ideas today (after i finish working obviously 😉). That's really useful re the timings of the school hols over there. I was already trying to avoid end of July as I assumed the Olympics will make NE France busier/more expensive so that works out well.

I also never knew Centreparcs were in Europe, I just assumed that they were UK only!

Ohh I've been looking at similar but I'm on a tighter budget. Hoping for a short drive from Calais (max 4 or 5 hours, ideally less). Was considering yelloh sites, as they seem to have better reviews than some eurocamps. Sandaya and Huttopia also look good but out of our budget. We're looking at under €1k for a week, end of August.

I haven’t checked the prices, but have a look at Landal in the Netherlands 😊

Edited: There are several sites where 2 weeks in August seems to come in at < €2k.

EuroHoliday · 04/06/2024 20:42

Thanks both. Will check those ideas out too.

Duinrell is in a great location, 5 mins walk from a lovely little town, cycling distance from beach and within easy reach of Leiden, The Hague and Amsterdam. Our kids loved it!
