I find winter long and hard. I get terrible S.A.D. I have the lamps, take vitamin D etc but I just can't stand it.

Trying to save up to escape during the 2 week school holidays to break up winter. I could have a decent budget but my priority is hot, swimming in the sea hot. But also the cheapest possible. Don't exactly know how much but say around £800 for flights max and happy to do self catering or eat locally. Don't neces need to do AI unless it works out cheaper.

I think long haul will involve expensive flights but then cheap once I'm there. Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico etc. However I think I have left it late or need to spend significantly more than I think because so many people go away for Christmas and NY. I just had no idea!! I have to travel in school holidays as well which makes it more expensive.

Can anyone share any ideas. Everything I'm looking at is eye watering expensive.

Thanks.

Flights are very expensive around Christmas / New Years.

Mexico you’re probably looking at £950-£1000 per person in the week either side of Christmas / New Year.

You might be able to manage Thailand under £800pp if you fly AirChina via a stop in China - have seen Chiang Mai via Beijing for £705 for example. But that does make the flights very long.

Vietnam might be more affordable than Thailand flights wise. There are lots of options for Hanoi flights via mainland China with China Southern for £650-750.

Cape Verde if you fly with Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca you can do for £700-800 - but if you actually want to swim in the sea, it’s not good sea swimming because it’s so rough.

Goa or Kerala in India might be options for c£800 with either Air India or Virgin.

Egypt is likely to be your best bet for easy flights under £800 would have thought. I’m not sure if it will be hot enough for you though?

Morocco?

Caribbean package? Not sure you'd get two weeks for that budget though. Canaries would be pleasant weather but a bit bracing in the sea.

Thanks @Turmerictolly @cherryassam @Moonshine5

I will look into Thailand with a stopover. Is there a way of making the stopover in China longer say 2 days to rest a bit and enjoy the area before heading on to Thailand?
