We will be picking up a hire car in New York and then heading out to Rhode Island, Cape Cod, Boston, and then round through the Berkshires.
Looking at hire cars, all the big brands use PlatePass to manage the EZ tolls, at a hefty daily charge if you go all inclusive ($28).
Think we're going to book with Hertz: its website says you can decline PlatePass and pay $9.99 per day plus the top price toll fee(s) on the days that you use tolls. From our route, there will be 5 days where we use toll roads and 7 when we don't, and the top rate of tolls all come to about $70, so way cheaper than going all inclusive.
Has anyone declined PlatePass and just been billed for the days that they used tolls? Did the billing work OK?
Thanks in advance.
