Passport in maiden name , what name to put travel insurance in ?

Just pondering here , my passport is still in my maiden name ( quite legal you are allowed to use it until it runs out as long as plane tickets are in the same name) but travel insurance ? Now if that's in my maiden name and I need to claim for something which I need to pay upfront and get reimbursed I don't have a bank account in my maiden name . But if I put the insurance in my maiden name and something happened , say a hospital visit and I needed to show my passport the two wouldn't tally up 🤔 I'm swaying towards insurance in maiden name but just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation?

Needs to match holiday booking

I was heavily swayed towards that tbh but what if I need reimbursing for something the insurance policy name won't match my bank account, I suppose the bank can look back to when I changed my name and realise it's me .

I haven't been in this situation (didn't change my name) but I'm sure you'd just give the bank details including the surname on the account and it would be fine. Far more important for it to match your passport.

You can provide evidence though. It's fine.

Definitely have the insurance match your passport. The reimbursement issue could be sorted and explained later, but if there’s a medical emergency you don’t want to be arguing with the hospital etc that the policy really is yours.

It's a complete PITA to have only a partial name change.

You need the name on your holiday to match across all docs likely to be relevant - passport, tickets, insurance, visa, maybe driving licence and at least one bank card.

I'm not sure what the best solution is for you OP - do you have anything financial that is still in your passport name?

How long until you travel?

I work in travel insurance. Match it to your passport and if needed claims would just ask for a pic of your marriage certificate to see the name change and that it matches your new name on bank account 😊 x

@strawberrypuds thank you , I will be grateful when this passport is up for renewal and I can have one in my actual name , twice I have booked tickets in my married name then had to change the name after , duh

You can use both maiden and married names forever at the same time. Lots of women use maiden at work and married in personal life.

As others have said, travel insurance to match your passport/holiday booking

It sounds as though it would be worth just forking out the fee for a new passport now even if it isn't due (if you haven't booked tickets yet).

I use two names and would recommend taking your marriage certificate with you to confirm your identity just in case.

Yup I think I would do the same - yes it's £100 but the name change fees must be nearly as much by now if you have made the error twice.

@Ineffable23 I'm waiting til the passport runs out next year , luckily managed to change my name for free the 2 occasions I have done it ! Travel in 2 weeks
