Satnav hire for US/Canada

Can anyone recommend a company in the UK to hire a satnav for the US and Canada? I’ve read that it’s much cheaper than hiring it from the car hire company in the US.

It would be much cheaper to either look at data options and use Google maps on your phone (eSIM, or my provider only charges £2 a day) or you can just buy a second hand one on eBay with US maps pre loaded.

Been hiring cars in US for years and never hired their satnav, it's a rip off!

Buy data instead and just use google maps on your phone?

Surely the Americans and Canadians hire cars with built in Satnav?

It’s pretty standard here in modern cars, so why not over there? Why would the hirers charge more?

Do some research, ask around.
Maybe I’m missing something?

In my experience, they'll try and charge you for it. When you decline you'll get in the car and find it's built in anyway

True. But also the car’s navigation is typically crap, so I would bring a cable and plug in your own phone so you can use google maps instead. And play your own music.

The car hire company wanted to charge a huge amount extra to have satnav and I’d read that it’s cheaper to hire here. I agree that it’s possible it might be in built but I think the stress of chancing it would be too much. I’m also not sure if just using a phone would be enough to reduce stress, small screen etc.

Carplay. It’s pretty much universal now, unless the car is 5+ years old which it won’t be because higher cars are new. So your phone map will be on the big screen.
