Day trip to ryde

We are looking at booking a trip on the hovercraft to the Isle of Wight. It goes to ryde. We are concerned that without a car there won’t be enough to do? Is there enough to do in ryde or walking distance?

The hovercraft terminal is located near the bus station at Ryde and from there you can get buses all over the island. Ryde has a nice high street but it goes uphill,
this town has steep hills if that is a concern. You may want to take a bus to Osborne House which is where Queen Victoria had her summer retreat.

I’m from the island.

you can visit the beach, shops, go for a walk along the front at ryde. Remember the hovercraft only runs when the weather is okay so have a contingency plan. Have a look at what things are in walking distance and if not, get a bus to somewhere you do want to go.

The hoverport is next to Ryde Esplanade station where Island Line operates and you can get the train to Shanklin or Sandown.

There’s a really cool escape room set in a church crypt in Ryde.

If bad weather does cause the hovercraft to be cancelled, your tickets will be accepted on the Wightlink FastCat catamaran service from Portsmouth Harbour station to Ryde Pier Head, without additional charge. There's a Hoverbus that goes between Southsea Hoverport and Portsmouth Harbour station.
